abstract = "This paper reviews the experimental component of the US Air Force-supported Multi-University Research Initiative (MURI) on femtosecond laser filamentation in transparent dielectric media. The program comprises a coordinated effort by research groups from 6 US universities and from the multi-terawatt laser laboratory at the Kirtland Air Force Base. The goal of the program is to conduct fundamental basic research on femtosecond laser filamentation, to develop new first-principle-based models of ultrashort and ultraintense pulse propagation in transparent dielectrics and to validate these models though a comprehensive experimental campaign.",
