Abstract
Exercise programs are beneficial to most COPD patients. Before an exercise program is started, however, a carefully monitored evaluation must be done to determine any limiting factors or contraindications. Results of pulmonary function tests do not change after a patient participates in an exercise program, but exercise tolerance generally increases, adding considerably to the patient's quality of life.
