    Abstract

GRANT is an expert system for finding sources of research funding given proposals. Its architecture and evolution are described. Initially, the system performed well in comparison with keyword search techniques, but as it grew a decrease in performance was observed. Experiments designed to probe these trends are reported, and it is demonstrated that performance can be restored.
