Abstract

The implementation of optical systems operating in the 1.3 μm optical window with in-line semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) is analyzed. The model was verified by experiment using the laboratory prototype of the link between Kassel and Hannover (KH). As an example the performance of the fibre line between Madrid and Lisbon (ML) is examined showing the importance of the noise suppression for 10 Gbit/s RZ data transmission.
