Essential excitations in phenylene-based conjugated polymers

Abstract

We have developed a computational approach based on an exciton basis to calculate the excited state spectrum of long chain poly(paraphenylenes). Pictorial descriptions of the excited states relevant in the photophysics of these systems are obtained. Evidence for bound excitons has been found.
