Abstract
Scout is a communication-oriented operating system that can be specialized for different information appliances. It uses paths as an explicit first class object to describe the flow of information through the system. Escort is the security architecture for Scout. It uses the explicit knowledge provided by a path abstraction to secure information flow in a flexible manner.
