Abstract
The corrected luminosities do not impact our conclusions about the dominant progenitor population or formation mechanism of the ICL as they are all higher by 20-55 per cent, making our original statements more conservative. Specifically, we concluded that dwarf galaxy disruption could not be the dominant mechanism of ICL build-up because the faint-end slope of the galaxy luminosity function was not sufficiently steep to account for the measured (underestimated) ICL luminosity. Likewise, our conclusion that major mergers with the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) also cannot dominate ICL formation grows stronger with the corrected ICL luminosities, as more than 10× too many major mergers with the BCG since z = 1 would be required to produce the minimum observed ICL luminosity of ~10 L*.
