Abstract
Endocrinologic problems in the elderly can present the head and neck surgeon as well as the general practitioner or internist with specific challenges that are not present in the young or middle aged adult patient. The head and neck surgeon should be aware of these special situations and, if necessary, prepared to initiate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic steps. Ultimately the best approach to treating endocrine disease in the elderly usually involves a team effort coordinating the special skills and expertise of both physician and surgeon.
