Abstract

All dielectric THz waveguide and horn antenna designed utilizing hollow core electromagnetic crystal (EMXT) structures are presented here. Very low loss (0.03 dB / mm) waveguide above 100 GHz has been achieved. Flared horn antenna based on this waveguide has also been investigated. Simulation shows that the horn antenna works around 114, 132, and 162 GHz, with a return loss below -29 dB and a highly directional radiation pattern. These EMXT based components may be very useful in implementing integrated THz systems for many applications including imaging, biological and chemical detection and communication.
