Abstract

Processing of digital color images is often performed in a coordinate system related to the human visual system's perceptual attributes - luminance, hue, and saturation. However, the coordinate transformations of the color image data can be computationally intensive. Several efficient computational techniques are presented here for processing the luminance and saturation components of a color image. These techniques effectively eliminate the need for computing the coordinate transformations. A theoretical analysis and experimental results show the effects of these techniques in various color coordinate systems.
