Abstract

The experimental observations of dynamic nonlinear X waves for femtosecond pulse propagation in water were analyzed. The nonlinear pulse splitting and dynamic X waves were found to be developed from the split pulses. The role of X waves in long-distance propagation was due to the interplay between nonlinearity and chromatic dispersion. The results show the intimate connections between long-distance propagation and nonlinear electromagnetic X waves.
