title = "Download alleviation for the XV-15: Computations and experiments of flows around the wing",
abstract = "Active flow control (AFC) studies are currently in progress at The University of Arizona utilizing both computational and experimental efforts aimed at optimizing the parameters affecting pressure drag. The wind tunnel tests and numerical models use existing tiltrotor airfoils as the test articles. Zero mass-flux oscillatory blowing through slots at various locations on the airfoil achieves significant reduction in download. Experimental data as well as numerical simulations using large eddy simulation (LES), Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model (FLUENT, CFL3D), and k-epsilon turbulence models are presented. In search of a higher performing design, a Kruger flap with an additional forcing slot was also analyzed. Moreover, the LES method was also used together with the numerical design optimization module of ANSYS.",
