Do anesthetics act by altering electron mobility?

The present study and model systems were designed to determine whether anesthetics and gases directly affect electron mobility and excitation in a corona discharge induced by field strengths comparable to electric fields that occur within neuronal membranes. The marked inhibition of electron mobility by potent anesthetics we observed suggests that hydrophobic solubility determines the anesthetic presence at the site of action, and alteration of electron mobility may determine anesthetic effect therein by preventing dipole related protein conformational response.
