Abstract

This entry starts with a historical note and a perspective on contemporary pursuits in head-mounted display (HMD) designs. The main focus then shifts to details of the various components of HMDs, including the light source, various approaches to the optical design, and key aspects of the user interface. It then reviews existing displays for both immersion and mixed reality. The final section discusses advanced pursuit in HMD designs.
