Abstract

We have demonstrated that direct overwrite without an initialization field is possible in a bilayer magneto-optical disk. This is however, achieved at the expense of preformatting domains in the reference layer which help in both the write and the erase processes. In addition this scheme may be sensitive to disk velocity, beam tracking, and pulse timing. To address issues such as these, we will treat the general two dimensional case of writing and erasure by removing the radial symmetry in our model.
