Abstract
Samples have been crystallized both isothermally and in a temperature gradient. It is found that extended- chain crystals, once nucleated, can form directly and rapidly from the melt. Extended- chain crystals form directly from the melt at high pressure. It is suggested that at temperatures close to the extended chain crystals melting point, the primary nucleation of these crystals is slow but their growth is rapid. At lower temperatures, the growth of folded chain crystals is kinetically preferred. 10 refs.
