Abstract
To the Editor: We should like to comment on the paper by Hager et al.1 concerning the interaction between quinidine and digoxin. Since we described this interaction2,3 continued research by us4 and others1,5 has shown a marked decrease in renal digoxin clearance by quinidine. In our series 17 patients on maintenance digoxin therapy were given quinidine for atrial fibrillation. Digoxin plasma levels increased in all. In five of these patients renal digoxin clearance was determined and found to be decreased by 57 to 84 per cent, to an average of 39 ml per minute. This reduction seems too large to.
