Abstract

Computer simulations that use a combination of ray-tracing, diffraction calculations, and accurate solutions of Maxwell's equations based on the Finite-Difference-Time-Domain method can model the entire optical path, from light source to detectors, in an optical data storage system. We present the results of such calculations for some state-of-the-art media and systems.
