Differential diagnosis of diseases

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter provides a list of differentials to consider under various different clinical presentations. They are organized by system affected. Many times clinical disease outbreaks in large populations are multifactorial, and thus focusing on single causes can misguide practitioners. The chapter provides a general list of possible causes of rectal prolapses including a brief explanation. It summarizes differential diagnosis lists for major respiratory clinical presentations, and helps narrow down the differential diagnosis of skin diseases based on location and clinical presentation of the lesions. Anemia is a common clinical presentation related to the hemopoietic system. The chapter lists possible causes of anemia. It is important to note that many times diseases affecting either of the nervous and locomotor systems have similar general clinical presentations. The chapter lists some causes of neurologic signs. It also lists possible causes of reproductive losses in pigs, and summarizes pig diseases with zoonotic potential.
