Abstract

This section provides first-line nutrition strategies for clinicians to present to patients. The foundation of maximal cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk reduction by diet includes the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), Mediterranean, Portfolio, and OmniHeart eating plans. Provided steps highlight dietary strategies that individuals should implement to better align with the evidence-based dietary patterns described. Strategies for clinical practice are also provided via links to online resources through the American Heart Association; the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; and others.
