Abstract

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and DHEA sulfate (DHEAS) have attracted much attention for their activities in immunomodulation, antitumourigenesis and modification of age-associated changes. We recently reviewed the prevention of immune dysfunction by DHEA in ageing, chronic AIDS and leukaemia patients. In this paper we review several recent studies on the antitumour initiation and immunomodulatory effects of DHEA.
