Abstract
The coverage dependence of Raman scattering from CN on Ag island films is found to be highly nonlinear. It can be explained by a classical calculation of microscopic local fields taking into account the electronic polarizabilities of nearby adsorbates and the two-photon nature of spontaneous Raman scattering.
