Cutaneous abscess caused by Legionella micdadei in an immunosuppressed patient

Legionella micdadei is most commonly associated with pulmonary infection in the immunosuppressed patient. Extrapulmonary infections due to Legionella species are becoming increasingly recognized. Besides cutaneous infections, prosthetic valve endocarditis, purulent pericarditis and infection of hemodialysis fistulae caused by L. pneumophila have all been reported. We report the case of an immunosuppressed patient who developed a cutaneous abscess of the leg from which L. micdadei was the only organism isolated.
