Coupled-mode theory of vertically integrated impedance-matched waveguide/photodetectors

Abstract

Using coupled-mode theory, a simple model is developed which elucidates the operation of vertically integrated waveguide/photodetectors with emphasis on the underlying physical principles. The coupled-mode theory results are shown to agree well with numerical simulations using the finite difference beam propagation method.
