Abstract

This chapter presents a new particle-based contact algorithm for peridynamic modeling of impact. The penalty-based contact model employs the parameters directly computed from contact mechanics. The contact force evolution is validated by performing an impact test on a target which is governed by the peridynamic equation of motion. Also, it is shown that the contact force is not sensitive to the mesh discretization of the impactor. Furthermore, this approach is capable of modeling arbitrary shape impactors.
