Abstract
Vector diffraction simulations pertaining to the effective depth of the groove for different track pitches and different numerical apertures (NA) of the objective lens were performed. Results indicate that the effective depth of the groove is different for the incident beam with different polarizations, for the objective lenses with different NAs, and for grooves with different periods. To reduce cross-talk between adjacent tracks, the vector diffraction theory is indispensable for understanding the dependence of the effective depth on the physical depth, numerical aperture, and groove period.
