Abstract
In this brief commentary, two outsider archaeologists–one who works on the Great Plains and another, on the Woodland period Southeast–summarize important themes introduced and discussed in this special issue of Southeastern Archaeology. Inspired by ongoing research, they also propose potential directions for future inquiry on the Middle and Late Archaic.
