Characterization of the Mechanical Behavior of AA5052 Alloy

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the experimental characterization of the room temperature mechanical response of 5052-H32 aluminum alloy. Measurements of the initial texture of this material, showed that it displays a mild anisotropy in the plane of the sheet. Uniaxial tension tests were conducted for seven orientations in the plane of the sheet to quantify the effects of texture on the macroscopic plastic properties. Local strains were monitored using Digital Image Correlation. Irrespective of the orientation, it was found that this material displays Portevin–Le Chatelier (PLC) effects. The challenges in the determination of Lankford’s coefficient for a material exhibiting PLC are discussed and addressed.
