Abstract
In situ laser Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize an alkali-promoted fused iron catalyst. Studies with adsorbed H2 and CO revealed the presence of FeH and FeC bonds. Bands for adsorbed CO were also detected, indicating adsorption on Fe° and Fen+ sites. Coexistence of Fe° Fe-carbide and Fe-oxide phases at the surface is proposed.
