Abstract
The history of flooding and consequent channel changes on the Escalante River in south central Utah are discussed. The consideration of paleohydrologic evidence of past major floods leads to the conclusion that a more robust test for non stationarity is needed for such rivers, particularly when using historical data in flood frequency analyses.
