Abstract
Numerical models of water distribution systems are constructed for various purposes. This paper analyzes the value of data for calibrating a model for three purposes; analysis, design and pump operations for a demonstration system. Comparisons are made using model prediction uncertainty and the change in design and operations cost as more data is collected and provided to the calibration process. It is clear that a model developed for one purpose may not be acceptable for other goals. In particular, a hydraulic model for a system expansion in which the flow distribution increases and changes must be well calibrated. Copyright ASCE 2006.
