Abstract

One of the newer techniques that has been used to study simple solid specimens, viz. the focused-beam, reflection mode acoustic microscopy (FRAM) is described. In an effort to provide a better understanding of the FRAM approach a comprehensive theoretical model of the system is developed in which all of the wave phenomena occurring within the solid are fully accounted for. In this paper the basic ingredients of the theory are briefly described and representative new results obtained are presented.
