Abstract
Carbon fibres based on polyacrylonitrile were graphitized with varying concentrations of boron in the atmosphere of the graphitization furnace. A variety of techniques was used to characterize the structures of the fibres, including small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering. It was found that the presence of boron does not affect the important structural features of the fibre bulk.
