Abstract
The endoscopic management of benign biliary strictures has evolved over the last two decades. In patients with postoperative and chronic pancreatitis (CP) biliary strictures, the early use of single plastic stents has been replaced with multiple plastic stents or self-expandable metal stents to obtain better long-term results. Removable partially covered metal stents have facilitated the process. In primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) balloon dilation is preferred, without stenting. This section will review the evolution of these treatment regimens, and current thoughts on the approach to these patients, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach.
