Abstract

Large-scale deployment and successful commercialization of digital video services over computer networks strongly depend on the cost effectiveness of these services. Network bandwidth is one of the major factors that impact the cost of a video service. In this article we survey various approaches to reducing the bandwidth requirement for transporting compressed video traffic over high-speed networks.
