Abstract

There are four factors which make up a successful approach to prevention: the use of ergonomics in the design of job tasks; selection of workers who are physically qualified for physically stressful tasks; training the workers; and post-injury rehabilitation and treatment for those workers who do not get injured. The paper deals with the first as it applies to underground coal mining.
