Abstract
As portable and hand-held devices shrink in size while adding more and more features, the biggest impediment to progress in this technology seems to be the power and energy consumption. Advanced features and improved performance comes at the cost of consuming increased power that requires increased battery capacity as well as the higher cooling needs of the device components. However, large battery capacity increases the device’s size. Naturally, there has been extensive research dedicated towards low-power and low-energy design and conservation to further the mobile and hand-held technology [1–9]. The battery-size and hence the available battery capacity places an obvious upper limit on the available power budget for portable and hand-held devices.
