Abstract

A simplified model is used to work out the anisotropy of sound speed in a fiber bundle. It is explained qualitatively why the sound speed in the direction of fiber is greater than that in the direction perpendicular to the fiber. Then an estimation of the difference in speed is presented. The estimation is in agreement with the experimental data.
