Abstract
Using Haken's theory of phase transition-like phenomena in systems far from thermal equilibrium, we give an analytical description of the self-pulsing behavior in absorptive optical bistability. The results are compared with the corresponding computer solutions. We discuss the order (first or second) of the phase transition from CW to pulsed transmission.
