N2 - Copovithane (BAYi7433) is a synthetic polymer of molecular weight 7,800 daltons with antitumor activity. An analytical method for copovithane in biological fluids involving organic extraction, and hydrolysis and TNBS derivitization of generated methylamine was developed. This method utilizes HPLC for final quantitation of the TNBS-methylamine adduct. The lower limit of detection was 15 g/ml of either plasma or urine. This method was sensitive enough to monitor the pharmacokinetics of copovithane in patients receiving therapy.
