Abstract

Optical soliton transmission on standard monomode fibers is analyzed in their low dispersion regime around 1300 nm wavelength where the guiding center soliton concept can be applied. The feasibility for ≥ 10 Gbit/s and ≥ 1000 km data transmission on the existing national fiber optical networks is shown considering all relevant practical constraints. We show that a first experimental realization supports this concept.
