Abstract

The development of an online geomechanics with a virtual rock lab, based on streaming audio and vector graphics, is discussed. The course includes in-class lectures that utilize a whiteboard for derivations, problem solving, and drawings. The rock lab provides an hands-on experience, as well as a writing experience in the form of laboratory reports. Several innovative multimedia components have been adapted to meet the challenges in developing such a course.
