Abstract

An electrically small electric-based metamaterial-inspired antenna that is designed for narrow bandwidth operations in the VHF and UHF bands is presented. It is demonstrated that the idealized lossless versions have overall efficiencies at 100% without any external matching circuits and quality factors approaching the Chu limit. When conductor losses are introduced, the overall efficiencies remain high.
