N1 - Funding Information: de los reyes de Navarra 10, ed. Jose-Yanguas y Miranda, Textos Medievales 27 (Pamplona, 1843; repr. Valencia, 1971), p. 149, claims, "el conde de Artois, con grant cura de complir la voluntat del Rey, Ilev6 consigo toda la dicha gente, en que habia cerca de diez mil de a caballo, e veinte mil peones"; a footnote to this same figure states, "cien mil, dicen tres c6dices." Moret, Armies, 5:63, who usually follows Carlos, here cites the chronicle of William de Nangis: "Veinte mil combatientes entre infantes y caballos dice que le di6 el rey Guillermo Nangio, que al tiempo escribia." Langlois, Philippe III, p. 103, mentions the same figures with the remark "dit-on"; and Ballesteros, Alfonso X, p. 796, also repeats them. Anelier's rhymed chronicle, v. 4305, reports that the troops arrived in Pamplona on 3 September. Funding Information: seen as the act of a prudent man; Procter, Curia and Cortes, p. 143, also underscores the importance of Alfonso's illness in the designation of Sancho in 1278 and cites a declaration by Sancho's tutor, Juan Gil de Zamora, that in this year Sancho "incipit coregnare" (Liber de preconiis Hispanie, ed. Fidel Fita, Boletin de la Real Academia de la Historia 5 [1884], 146). 149 Ballesteros, Alfonso X, p. 887, states without reference that "Ya del dia 28 de junio ha llegado a Sevilla y expide un privilegio rodado al prior y a la Universidad de los clerigos parroquiales de la ciudad de Cordoba"; on p. 1117, however, he also catalogs a grant given by Alfonso in Seville on 28 July 1279 (doc. 1181). 150 O'Callaghan, Cortes of Castile-Leon, pp. 25, 84, et passim.
