Abstract

Ten-watt-level free-running operation and watt-level wavelength-tunable narrow-linewidth operation of heavily erbium-doped ZBLAN double-clad fiber lasers near 3 ìm are reported. The obstacles of further power scaling and an approach to extend the tunable range of mid-infrared fibers are discussed.
