Abstract

The second-harmonic generation and thermal stability of hybrid photosensitive sol-gel films doped with a side-chain electro-optic chromophore were studied. Ultraviolet exposure was applied during poling to obtain photopolymerization at the same time as thermal densification. The nonlinear optic coefficient was derived for the cross-linked and noncross-linked sol-gel films. The results indicate that the film could withstand the long-term stability requirement for optical components.
