Abstract
The modification of the gain in the vicinity of a cw beam injected into the Fabry-Perot peak of an electrically excited VCSEL was measured by recording the changes in the lasing spectral profile. It is found that the new peak of the gain curve tunes away directly as the intracavity power. This new result implies that stimulated emission and absorption accelerate the response with very little reduction in the carrier density.
