Abstract
A new waveguide component that controls RF power flow with variable-surface impedance electromagnetic (EM) crystals is proposed. To prove the concept, two fixed-impedance EM crystals were tested separately inside a standard Ku-band waveguide. The measurements show one EM crystal passing RF power with less than 2 dB of insertion loss from 14.5 to 16.6 GHz, and the other EM crystal reflecting the RF power with better than 60 dB of isolation.
