Abstract

In no other clinical discipline is the role of single decision maker as important as it is in surgery. Yet, the surgeon’s decision, as we have seen throughout this book cannot be taken out of multidisciplinary team, and thus has to be incorporated and viewed in that context. While the surgeon is the captain of this complex ship, the leadership skills of the surgeon, not surgical skills alone, will make this process seamless, less cumbersome and will affect the overall outcomes. The aim of this chapter is to review the leadership skills as it pertains to directing the multidisciplinary team approach to surgical disease.
