Abstract
A spatial modeling approach was developed, utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) and geostatistics, to predict the production and utilization of perennial range grasses in a semidesert grassland in southern Arizona. Production and utilization data was collected and a GIS database was developed for a portion of the Santa Rita Experimental Range near Tucson, Arizona. IDRISI, a raster-based GIS, was used for analysis in this study. Forage utilization was calculated for each cell as the function of distance to water and slope. Using results from this study, land managers can estimate grazing capacities from predictor variables. -from Authors
